The magazine publishes original stories and articles on the history, language, culture, and heritage of Nunavimmiut (Inuit of Nunavik, in northern Quebec). The magazine also reproduces archives and other heritage materials gathered by Avataq's Inuttigut Pirrusiit Documentation Centre, such as oral histories, historical photos, textual records and genealogies. It focuses on knowledge kept in the Nunavik Inuit oral tradition, especially on knowledge shared by Inuit elders, in their own words. Tumivut also publishes articles on the archeology and geography of Nunavik, as well as contemporary Inuit storytelling.

Each issue has a theme, namely a particular community or topic. The magazine has been published on a roughly annual or biannual basis. The magazine was published for the Association des francophones du Nunavut (6,000 French speaking members). This oral history magazine to publish stories that tell the history of Labrador and its people. The editor uses the Them Days Archives, a collection of diaries, letters, recordings, and photographs and actively seeks out new reminiscences for each volume. Them Days first operated under the Labrador Heritage Society until it was incorporated in 1980. Issue 130 saw the spelling of its name change to Tarralik. 

The magazine includes contributions of text and photos from the various individuals and organizations associated with the Inuit in Nunavik and is produced by Makivvik staff.

In its paper format, the magazine is delivered free of charge to all beneficiary households in Nunavik and to a mailing list of private individuals, government officials, and archives.
