. CHRISTMAS AT HOLM.AN
by CHRiSTil1A BANKSLAND

Last Christmai it was lots of fun
a good Christmas. We have games. We
eat at the school. It's always crowded,
no place to sit, so we have tc sit in
the ethe·r class. We had caribou soup
and some sandwiches and juice and tea.
We had n0t much fun playing games. When
we quit church at New Year they shoot
anywhere but not at people. rt was fun
on the next day. They had a dog team
race and at night they had a dance.
When we geL"'lg to eat vmen there is not
much dishes we run home and get
some of our own.

~-------*------THE WALK HO:IYIE
by JOHNHY EGOTAK

P[SOKPAKTOT

- JOffiUIT EGOTAK

''

The. story might have started like
Morris and Donald Hotina were
going' to see their traps. When they
got across MintL Inlet their ski-doo
broke down. There was no more spark in
the spark plug. The >Joil was no mere
good._ Se they started walking home.
They took a primis stove and some grub
with them. When it was dark, they got
to the fish lake. Palvik was there so
they slept with him that night. Tn the
morning they started for home again.
They walked for a long time. Sometimes
they would stop to make tea.,, When they
got close to the settlement Donald's
leg gnt sore. They grit home when his
leg was very sore. They must have
walked over 50 or 60 miles. Donald and
Morris wouldn't want to walk that far
anymore.

Once again it is time for school in
Ulusactau, I am pleased to see that most
people send their children to school here.
We teachers can only help the children
to learn if they come every day.
·
This year some adults· have h~lped
us in the classroom, Kalvak a~d Neieyok
have visited us and tcld us several tales
about the old days. Both the children
and ~he teachers enjoy these ~tories,
Elva ca~e to help ~he older ·girls 0e~ve
some pretty belts, We hope that other
adults will co~e to school to help teach
the waya of the Inuit so they are not
forgotten by the children,
M::;_ny 1:eople came to our 01:,an hous0.
We hope that everyone enjoyed ihe play
even though .some actors for;:,Jt tlieir
parts,
At Christmas time ge had a concert
at the schc,ol. '.'fe pu.t on t1,,o plays ar:.d
